c1660 Plug Bayonet with c1630 Blade
*Floral makers mark at ricasso*
A plug bayonet dating from c1660-1685 and made for an officer's fusil. Featuring an ivory grip decorated with ornate 'CR' cypher to grip and crown above. This is without doubt an English Charles II period plug bayonet (Evans, 2002: 18-26). The blade is taken from an earlier English Civil War Mortuary sword (back sword) and is typical of its type that was imported during the English Civil War (1642-1651) for mounting at the Hounslow sword school. Having contributed to the writing of English and Scottish Sword Makers by Ricahrd Bezdek I can be sure of this attribution.
This is a very rare example in pristine condition.
