Field Marshall Montgomery Grouping

A group of medals, photograph and original autograph of Field Marsahall Montgomery taken by and presented to Major Peter Casson (Royal Intelligence Corps) and interpretor at the Nuremberg Nazi War crime trials for the duartion. This is an imporatnt grouping and a very rare find. Major Casson was the personal aide to David Maxwell Fyfe, 1st Earl of Kilmuir one of the senior judges at the Nuremberg trials.

Laura Knight first met Major Peter Casson, a Canadian, at Nuremberg in 1946 when he was Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General of the British War Crimes Executive. It was his job to look after her during her stay and they became friends, despite a big difference in ages. He organized this luncheon in celebration of the retrospective exhibition of her work held at the R.A., one of her greatest honours (See J Dunbar, pp.171, 221-223).

Group includes a collection of WW1/ WW2 books, medals, original photograph, original signitures of both Field Marsahall Montgomery AND Clemintine Chruchill.

A rare grouping recently purchased from a local family with direct family ties to Major Casson.
