Ref: 11A - Antique Edo Period (1603-1868) Urushi-Nuri (漆塗) Style Menpo.

Description

A very nice Menpo dating from c1800 with urushi-nuri (漆塗) in black on the face of the piece and red urushi-nuri (漆塗) on the inner facing. Good un-restored Menpo in the UK are hard to find as many have had 'over restoration' and have lost almost all of their patina and originality. We at Armoury Antiques and Militaria like to leave items untouched and only if completely necessary or on the request of clients have items 'conserved' by the best craftsman in Japan that we know.  

This Menpo would complete an armour or enhance that Kabuto you may have in your collection.
