A Percussion Sea Service Pistol, Dated 1847. With round barrel struck with numerous Government viewing and proof marks, border engraved lock, stamped with crowned VR and TOWER 1847, full stocked in walnut, stamped with stockers marks beneath the belt hook, brass mounts comprising trigger guard, butt cap with lanyard ring, and captive ramrod pipe and fitted with captive ramrod. In good clean order.

A rare pistol dating to 1847 and first issued to the Coastguard - an anti-smuggling force formed in 1822 from the former Preventive Water Guard. 'Tower" marked and Board of Ordnance marked on the furniture as well as having the government acceptance stamps, plus the additional crown stamp to the barrel tang. Presented in good working order, with strong springs, the iron work is showing a grey age patina.
