WW1 Death Plaque.

'Frank Willson'
Array
Description

A nice 100% original untouched WW1 Death Penny named.

9th Battallion Royal Defence Corps. Died 16/03/18 aged 43.

Buried Leeds (Lawns Wood) Cemetery. Husband of Clara Willson of 19 Asquith St, Reservoir St, Leeds.  He was a previous time served regular army soldier and his Service Record can be viewed on findmypast.co.uk. Enlisted into the Royal Artillery at Scarborough 18 Sept 1897. Discharged 17 Sept 1909 after completing 12 years service. Served abroad in Mauritius and India. SR states he then re-enlisted into the 11 Support Coy, 5th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment as no. 1443.  Married 1906. Plaque is in good condition. Note his name is spelt Willson with a double rather than single L  meaning this plaque is a unique name.  There are just 63 Willsons  listed on cwgc.org for WW1 compared to 4879 Wilsons.

Royal Defence Corps plaques are fairly rare. They were mainly older men  often with  previous military experience who were usually too old or not fit enough  to serve abroad in the front line but could do valuable military duty  within the UK such as guarding strategic buildings, bridges, POW camps etc.

A nice uncleaned real WW1 Death Penny.

Postage included for UK clients.
