Victorian Second Afghan War Campaign Medal Pairing.

 The 1878-1880 Afghanistan medal was Instituted on the 19th of March 1881. This medal was awarded to those who served in the campaigns between 22nd November 1878 - 26th May 1879 and 3rd September 1879 - 20th September 1880.

16 Victoria Crosses were awarded for the Second Afghan War.

The Kabul to Kandahar Star was awarded for the epic 310-mile march by English and British troops under General Roberts from Kabul to Kandahar in August 1880, to relive a besieged force during the second Afghan war. Made from captured Afghan guns, it signifies participation in this arduous relief of Kandahar and is a distinctive five-pointed bronze star with the VRI monogramed inscription awarded to over 11,000 recipients.
