A beautiful Victorian example.

The King's Shropshire Light Infantry (KSLI) participated in the 2nd Boer War through its 2nd Battalion, which served from 1899-1902.  The battalion was part of the British offensive in 1900, including the capture of Pretoria, and later engaged in anti-insurgency operations. Two Shropshire Volunteer Service Companies  also supported the war effort from 1900-1902.

  • Deployment: The 2nd Battalion was sent to South Africa in late 1899 as reinforcements for the war 
  • The battalion took part in the 1900 British offensive against the Boer army, including the Battle of Paardeburg and the capture of Pretoria.
  • From 1900 to 1902, it was involved in anti-insurgency operations against Boer commandos.
  • Support: Two Volunteer Service Companies from Shropshire also served in the conflict.
  • Post-War: After the war ended in 1902, the 2nd Battalion was sent to India.
