***NOW SOLD***Superb Very Early Production WW2 German Wound Badge in Gold.
WW2 German Gold Wound Badge.A Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold was instituted on 1st September 1939.
Early non-maker marked high quality example.
The Gold Wound Badge was awarded for five or more times wounded, loss of limbs, total blindness, "loss of manhood", or severe brain damage via hostile action. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc base that has been gold gilded and lacquered. The oval shaped obverse depicts an embossed profile of a mobile swastika, above an M35 pattern helmet, which is above two crossed broad swords. This then lies on a pebbled field and is surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a bow tie. The full-back features the correct stamped catch, stamped hinge and round wire brass pin.
A lovely early example in wonderful condition and very hard to find in this condition. Solid backed (as they should be - no matter what some try to tell you!).
