***NOW SOLD***Hongô Clan Koto Etchū School Katana - Late Kamakura Period (鎌倉時代, Kamakura Jidai, 1185–1333).

Hongô Clan Koto Etchū School Katana - Late Kamakura Period (鎌倉時代, Kamakura Jidai, 1185–1333).

Hongô clan owned Katana - the Hongô clan was a branch family of the Shimazu clan of Satsuma clan, descended from the sixth son of Shimazu Tadamune.

This sword is an Etchū school and presented in an 18th century Koshirae. The Tsuka and Saya are fantastic survivors and require only minor conservation to really make this example display at its best. The blade is signed and is Suriage. Nagasa is just over 28 inches, which is nice to see and this sword once sensitively conserved with a traditional polish, will be a superb and very rare example.
