1576 QRMS SERGT W.H. SWEET. 1/ CORN. DCLI
A superb Victorian Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry pair of medals consisting of the India General Service Madal (1895) having the usual Pujab Fronteir 1897-98 clasp and in addition the Tirah 1897-98 clasp, which related to Tirah Expeditionary Force and awarded to those who fought in the several Malakand battles; and those who served on the Samana beyond Kohat. This clasp is very scarce and maked this avery rare pair of medals.
The Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal is in very fien condition too and was authorised by Army Circular 685 of 1830. This is the QV 3rd type issued 1874-1901 with the samller wrting to the reverse.
The diffciult nature of the terrain and the fanatical disposition of the enemy made the 1897-98 campaign particualry hard, and casulaties amongst British and Indian troops were quite high.
An untouched pair of medals.
