***New In***Koto (pre-1596) Etchū Katana in Hongô Family Mon Koshirae.
A large Etchū Katana with so much potential!
Etchū Province was an old province of Japan in the area of Toyama Prefecture on the island of Honshū. Along with Echizen and Echigo Provinces, it was sometimes called Esshū (越州).
Hongô clan owned Katana - the Hongô clan was a branch family of the Shimazu clan of Satsuma, descended from the sixth son of Shimazu Tadamune. This sword is Koto period (pre-1596) and presented in a 18th century Koshirae. The Tsuka and Saya are fantastic suvivors and require minor conservation to really make this example display beautifully. The blade is signed and is Suriage. Nagasa is just over 28 inches, which is nice to see and this sword once sensitively conserved with a traditional polish will be a superb and valuable investment quality item.
Blade is signed 'Etchū No Kami....'
Translates to: 'Lord of Etchū Province...'
(Suriage).
